Young Yuvraj shines overall after Rugved wins Race 1

Pune: Junior National Supercross champion Yuvraj Konde-Deshmukh rode his KTM SX105 through the spectacular flat track that traversed through a bunch of coconut trees to take the overall title in the Group A Foreign Open Class taking advantage of a restart of Race 2, in the second round of the the MMSC-FMSCI Indian National Dirt Track championship at the Hadapsar Ground on SB Tupe Road, here on Sunday.

One gate failed to open at the start line when the Race 2 was flagged off forcing the Marshalls to restart the race, which till then was led by the championship leader Rugved Barguje, who was astride a TVS RTR300.
Yuvraj was unfazed by the restart and he quickly set the pace leading the opening straight and then the on course that meandered through a bunch of coconut trees a couple of right handers and left handers slowed down the riders.

Rugved, who had won the Race 1 early in the morning, tried to catch up with Yuvraj, but the youngster kept a steady pace and his immaculate control over the bike was well appreciated by the motorsports fans who filled up the two stands that were raised for public view.

Yuvraj, who last month sealed his National Supercross championship title in Pune, led all the way in the 8-lap race, while Rugved struggled to control the high-powered, but old TVS machine that wobbled at the corners.

“I was confident of winning after taking the Race 1, but the restart diverted my concentration. Though Yuvraj won Race 2 and the overall title of the second round, I am ready to go all the way to Chennai and claim the title,” said Rugved, who had won overall title in the first round in Kolhapur on December 24.

Rugved first won the Group A Seniors Class reserved for bike upto 500cc by beating Yuvraj in a battle that went to the wire.

The championship will have its third and final round in Chennai on January 20-21.

“Yuvraj rode very confidently despite having lost the Race 1. He should be able to give tough contest in the final round,” said his father-cum-coach Sandeep Konde-Deshmukh.

In both the races, Nashik’s Yash Pawar finished third on his Kawasaki KX250 on a track of black soil that had turned slippery at some turns after it was watered for the second session.

One rider appeared on the final bend and was swept off his bike that skid for some meters before Marshalls took him to safety before an Ambulance arrived to administer first aid.

Without doubt, Pune riders showed their class took the major pie of the trophies in various classes with Juniors being won by season campaigner Yuvraj Kondedeshmukh. Sarthak Chavan coming in overall second ahead of another Pune rider Karan Karle.
