World School Badminton Championship from Friday

Pune: Pune is all set to hostthe World School Badminton Championship which will be held at Balewadi Sports Complex from April 20 to 24. The five day tournament will witness teams from 16 countries competing for the trophy. 

Each team will have 10 players - 5 boys and 5 girls, they will be accompanied by sports advisors, managers and technical officials.

One tie will have five matches ie - 2 doubles match and 3 singles matches. 16 teams will be divided into four groups. Top two teams from each group will advance ahead. Each team will have 10 players - 5 boys and 5 girls, they will be accompanied by sports advisors, managers and technical officials.

As the host country, India has been given a Wild Card, it has the privilege to have two teams - India ‘A’ and India - ‘B’. From Maharashtra,  Prerna Alvekar will be seen in action in India ‘A’ team while Tanishka Deshpande is the part of India ‘B’ team.

The championship will see the participation of 200 players, 64 coaches, 32 managers along with 80 umpires and technical officials. The championship will be played in the Under-18 category for boys and girls respectively.
Maharashtra Badminton Association will be handling the technical aspects of the tournament. 

The tournament has been organised by Maharashtra Government, International School Sport Federation and School Games Federation of India, Delhi. Kinder+Sport is an official partner of International School Sport Federation.
