Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni backstabbed Yuvraj Singh, claims Yograj Singh

Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni backstabbed Yuvraj Singh, claims Yograj Singh

Yograj Singh is known for his rant and blatant remarks. The former India pacer turned actor has been very critical on MS Dhoni in the past as he believes that the latter sabotaged his son, Yuvraj Singh’s international career.

In an interview with News 24, Yograj also slammed Virat Kohli and former selector Sarandeep Singh for not backing his son.

After battling cancer, Yuvraj Singh made a comeback in 2012 against New Zealand in a T20 match. He wasn’t as consistent as before. He last played for India in 2017 before announcing his retirement in 2019.

Yograj Singh’s statement comes after Yuvraj Singh, last month, in an Instagram Live chat with Sportstar had said that he did not receive the same kind of backing Virat Kohli and Dhoni as captains, as he had received from former captain and current BCCI President Sourav Ganguly.

Yograj said, “Along with these two (Dhoni and Kohli), I would say that even the selectors betrayed him. I had met Ravi (Shashtri) recently. He asked me for a photograph. I called him and pointed out that all great players should get a send-off based on their performances.”

“When Dhoni, Kohli or Rohit retire, I would request the board to give them a good send-off as they have done so much for Indian cricket. Many have backstabbed him and it hurts."

Yograj condemned the selection panel of Indian cricket, specifically revealing Sarandeep Singh’s name. Yograj alleged that the former Indian off-spinner always wanted his son dropped from the team.

He claimed, “Indian selector Sarandeep Singh, he used to go to meetings and say that Yuvraj should be dropped. Such people are appointed as selectors who do not know ABC of cricket. What do you expect from them? It hurts when someone backstabs you. Everybody was worried about what would happen to them if Yuvraj continues to perform.”

Yograj also revealed that Suresh Raina was touted to be picked over Yuvraj when the 2011 World Cup squad was picked.

“What’s new in that? I also got to know, even though I am not sure of how much of it is true, that in one of the meetings, someone said that the Indian team doesn’t need Yuvraj as Suresh Raina is a part of the team. I did not say so. Yuvraj himself said so, and I have heard many cricketers say so as well,” Yograj said.

Yuvraj went on to win the 2011 World Cup for India. He was adjudged the Player of the Tournament.
