Vinaya, Karan win Pune FLO half-marathon

Pune: Vinaya Malusare and Karan Singh posted creditable an hour-and-a-half below timings to win the Bridgestone India-Pune FLO Half-Marathon 2018 held around Magarpatta City here on Sunday.

Vinaya hit the finish line in 1 hour 28 minutes 32 seconds, while Karan was home in 1:10:59 in the run that saw over 10,000 take part to highlight the importance of women empowerment.

Running under ambient conditions produced good timings, specially men, who were separated by a few seconds on the podium.

Following Karan in the second place was Ankit Malik, who posted 01:11.00 and Vikram B (01:11:03) in the third place.

The Event started with spreading the awareness on status of woman in the society as the core communication and focused on encouraging the financial independence of women and encouraging them with employment opportunities.

“Our motto is power to empower and idea was to bring the importance of women back in the society and raise as much as possible funds from the Marathon to help projects & initiatives of Skilling and Swayam,” Sangeeta Lalwani, Chairperson FICCI FLO Pune, said during the prize ceremony.

“We are glad for the extraordinary response of the citizens of Pune. Women are not only an integral part of the societal structure, but also a powerhouse of untapped potential individually. Hence, the cause of women empowerment is not only needed but truly deserved,” said Parag Satpute, Managing Director of Bridgestone India.
