Mumbai: Batting legends Sachin Tendulkar and Brian Lara will once again be seen on the ground hitting fours and sixes, when the two will join other retired prominent cricketers like Virender Sehwag, Tillakaratne Dilshan, Brett Lee and Jonty Rhodes to give their fans a chance to be happy once again.
These cricketers will be participating in Road Safety World Series (RSWS) in February 2020, was announced by Ravi Gaikwad, Regional Transport Office Chief Thane (Konkan range) on Thursday in Mumbai.
The RSWS will be an annual T20 series between veterans from five cricket playing nations - Australia, South Africa, Sri Lanka, West Indies and host India. Along with the great rivalry and fierce competition, the cricketers will also spread the messages of road safety during the League. The tournament will be played from February 4 to 16, 2020 and will be hosted across premier venues in India.
Sunil Gavaskar will be the commissioner and Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar has been announced as the brand ambassador of the league. Gaikwad said, “One thing that runs very deeply in every Indian DNA is cricket. The reach of this game and the following of its stars is phenomenal and that is what we want to do -- spread the message (of road safety) through this game which is so close to everyone in this country.”
“The Road Safety World Series is not just a cricket tournament, but a platform to achieve a much greater goal towards humanity as a whole,” Gaikwad added.
Sachin Tendulkar, who was also present at the announcement ceremony, said, “Road Safety is an issue that cannot be ignored simply for the fact that people are not following traffic rules. The change of the mindset of the people in order to ensure road safety must be addressed immediately.”
