Former Sri Lanka skipper Kumar Sangakkara on Thursday was questioned for nearly ten hours during the investigation by Special Investigation Unit who are probing accusations by Sri Lanka’s former Sports Minister. The Minister accused that the Sri Lanka's World Cup final against India in 2011 was fixed by ‘certain parties’.
An investigation was underway into the 2011 World Cup final by the Sri Lankan Ministry of Sports, after their former Minister of Sports Mahindananda Aluthgamage's specified that the April 2, 2011 final was fixed even though no significant proof has been well-found to support the charge. The match-fixing controversy in the 2011 World Cup final has raged in Sri Lanka. However, the details of Sangakkara’s statement are not known as yet.
After the questioning of Sri Lanka great for over 10 hours has led to protest outside the sports ministry office, with the youth wing of 'Samagi Jana Balawegaya' declaring their condemnation of the ‘continuous harassment of Sangakkara.’ Also, his fans have started making rounds of social media handles in support of their legendary batsman.
Meanwhile, another Sri Lanka great and former captain Mahela Jayawardene was spotted at the Special Investigations Unit of the Sports Ministry at Sugathadasa Stadium in Colombo on Friday. Jayawardene was part of the World Cup 2011 team and he hit a hundred in the final against India.
