Sourav Ganguly is a ‘very suitable candidate’ for ICC President: Sangakkara

Former Indian batsman Sourav Ganguly is not just renowned as a great cricketer, but also as an able leader. He captained the nation’s cricket team in the early 2000s, and the world witnessed the transformation of Indian cricket due to his fearless leadership. After cricket, Ganguly preferred joining administrative departments. Therefore, he became the president of the Bengal Cricket Association and utilized his skills to improve state cricket.  Recently, he was appointed as the President of Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). However, his name is prominent in the list of nominations for the vacant post of ICC Chairman.

Former Sri Lankan cricketer and legendary batsman Kumar Sangakkara, also claimed that Sourav Ganguly is the right person for the position. According to him, the post needs astute cricket brain like him. He believes that Ganguly can make that change because he has the best interest of the game at heart. He also told that he is a big fan of Dada, not because of his stature as a cricketer but because he has an astute cricket brain. As per Sangakkara, ICC chairman’s thinking should be truly international. Considering his work as a BCCI President he is the right choice.

Graeme Smith, the Director of Cricket South Africa (CSA) also believes that during such a tough time in world cricket, Sourav Ganguly is the right choice for ICC chairmanship. He feels that Ganguly’s take over in such difficult times may direct world cricket in the right direction. While endorsing his comments, CSA CEO Jacques Faul said that South Africa will not have an objection if an Indian heads ICC once again.
