SES Gurukul, St Mary’s School enter finals with thumping wins in last four

PUNE: SES Gurukul School and St Mary’s School won their respective semi-finals to set-up an exciting summit clash at the under 14 girls Zilla Parishad football event here on Wednesday.

Being played at the St Patrick’s school ground, the day’s matches provided thrilling action as both the semi-finals saw as many as 8 goals scored combined.

In the first match, SES Gurukul School displayed great composure in front of the goal to score a clinical 3-0 win over Hutchings High School.

Rama Deshmukh, Drishti Patil and Mrinal Sagwekar were the chief architects of the comfortable win as they scored a goal each.

They were up 2-0 as early as the seventh minute when Drishti Patil rounded up the opposition goalkeeper to finish off a crisp move. Rama Deshmukh too was at her best as she came up with 2 assists in addition to a well-taken goal.

The Gurukul defence too was at it’s very best, keeping the Hutchings High School attackers at bay with the sound midfield and defensive play.

In the second match of the day, St Mary’s School thrashed Dr Kalmadi Shamarao High School 5-0 to make a good case for themselves in the final.

Anisha Jadgale and Surbhi Upadhyay were in splendid form as they grabbed a brace each for St Mary’s in a dominant display of style and prowess.

Riyana Varma was the other scorer for St Mary’s, who’ll be supremely confident facing Gurukul for the title clash on Thursday.

But the star of the show was undoubtedly Anisha, who apart from her 2 wonderfully taken goals, provided 2 assists and looked like creating a chance every time she dribbled forward with the ball.

In the quarter-finals, Hutchings School beat Angel Mickey Minie school, while SES Gurukul School beat Ahilyadevi High School.
