Riko Gunji enters semifinal

Pune: Second seed Riko Gunji from Japan defeated eighth seed Indian player Treesa Jolly 21-11, 21-13 in the quarterfinals of the Women’s Singles Under-19 category of the Yonex Sunrise India Junior International Badminton Grand Prix, in memory of Late Sushant Chipalkatti in progress at Modern Sports Complex on Saturday.

In another match, fourth seeded Pornpicha Choei Keewong from Thailand defeated India’s Meghana Reddy 21-18, 21-13 in a match which went on for 25  minutes. Later, Thailand’s third seeded Atitaya Povanon defeated Malaysia’s Zhing Yi Tan 21-12, 21-3 to enter the next round.

In the Men’s Singles Under-19 quarterfinal action, second seeded Indian player Meiraba Luwang beat Malaysia’s Justin Hon Shou Wei 21-16,21-12 in a 34 minute match. 

Also registering a win was Malaysia’s Ken Yon Ong who beat India’s Amit Rathore 9-21, 21-19, 21-15 in a 44 minute match.

In other action, third seeded Malaysian player Kok Jing Hong defeated fifth seeded Thai player Woraphop Chuenkha with the score reading 21-18, 21-15.

Men: 2-Meiraba Luwang bt Justin Hoh Shou Wei (Mas) 21-16,21-12; Ken Yon Ong (Mas) bt Amit Rathore 9-21, 21-19, 21-15; 3-Kok Jing Hong (Mas) bt 5-Woraphop Chuenkha (Tha) 21-18,21-15.
