Pushpendra emerges overall champion

PUNE: Border Security Force’s (BSF) DIG Pushpendra Singh Rathore bested some of the best in business to win he overall title in the third leg of the Deutsche Bank AVT Champions Tour golf tournament at the Oxford Golf Resort on Friday.

Rathore came up with a gross score of 143 with rounds of 71 and 72 over 36 holes played over two days after the first day on Thursday was marred by heavy rain forcing the match to be halted for over 3 hours.

The BSF DIG defeated former India international David D’Souza, who notched up a total score of 145 with 75 and 70 in the two rounds at the par-72 6700-yard course, which was rendered slow following Thursday’s rain.

RISHI, KAPIL DEV WIN
Former Asian Games gold medallist and 2018 National Champion on IGU Senior Tour, Rishi Narain and Kapil Dev won their respective age category titles with gross scores of 152 and 150 respectively over 36 holes

“Winning is always a good feeling. The AVT tour is a brilliant step towards helping us senior amateur golfers play more consistently now for a goal. The senior’s tour has revived the competitive spirit and winning amongst some really talented golfers is a feeling that is worth being cherished,” said Kapil Dev before rushing to catch up his flight out of Pune.

The AVT Champions Tour, co-sponsored by Incredible India is meant for senior golfers and is only the second national-senior (50 years and above) golf tournament in this country.

The two day event saw over 100 golfers participating in the Pune Leg from 10 different cities. Former All India Senior Golf Champion Gangesh Khaitan was the winner in the individual age category of 65 and above.

The inaugural year of the annual AVT Champions Tour Golf would be played across four locations in India. Classic Golf & country club hosted the first leg, and the third leg ended at the Oxford Golf Course. 

Among the women golfers, Tasreem Kazi, with a score of 173 was the Best Gross Winner and the Best Nett Winner was Punam Kalra (139).

OVERALL GROSS WINNERS
50–54 years: Ankur Prakash 147 gross
55–59 years: Rishi Narain 152 gross
60–64 years: Kapil Dev 150 gross
Plus-65 years: Gangesh Khaitan 149 gross
