Pune pulls riders from far and wide

Pune: Closeted in the humming space of Indy Karting Track in Kharadi, some 150-odd biking enthusiasts from as far as Chennai to Indore and from Nashik to Mumbai and off course many from Pune had just one passion binding them all. Bikes.

The aspiring riders for the JK Tyre Suzuki Gixxer Cup first quietly sat through the briefing before got into race suits and helmet to set fastest time through the twisty and tight track.

It wasn’t just the timing that was measured. How clean and safe one rides also counted and with most being rookies for competitive racing, speeding over the corners was one flaw that was noticed.

Pune hosted the third round of the selection tournament after Bengaluru and Aizawl. The fourth and final selection round will be held in the National Capital Region on June 25.

The novelty of this selection was that participants were provided Suzuki Gixxer bikes and safety gears. Participants went into straight shootouts with each other.

The names of the shortlisted bikers will be announced on June 27. 
With Gixxer Cup running along the 20th JK Tyre National Racing Championship, the riders will be assured of the best possible exposure in terms of technical lessons to infrastructure and availability of experts.

The series intends to give an opportunity to every aspiring biker, in every nook and corner of the country to showcase his or her skills and dream of becoming a champion with one of the key focus area being drivers participating from small towns.

The most talented rider would get a chance to participate in the Red Bull Rookies Cup Qualifying in Spain.

Twenty-four youngsters will be shortlisted from the over 16 years category, who will participate in the first round of the National Racing Championship, scueduled to held at Kari Motor Speedway in Coimbatore on July 8-9.
