Pune’s first Sports Nursery launched

Pune: Pune city which is well-known for it sports culture, is all set to add one more feather to its rich prestige with the launch of Sports Nursery.

Sports Nursery is the brain child of Sunder Iyer, Secretary of Maharashtra State Lawn Tennis Association and Mahendra Gokhale, High Performance Conditioning Coach.

“The idea of launching Sports Nursery is to nurture sports culture in kids right from a very young age. Today we see many parents taking their kids in parks to play, so we at our nursery want to groom kids with various games which will improve their hand-eye coordination while playing,” said Gokhale. 

The nursery will start at PYC Gymkhana and Nigdi Pradhikaran.
“We are targeting 25 centres in the city and PCMC. We are in talks with many builders who can provide us space. Few builders are very much excited by the idea and they are willing to join us,” said Iyer.

Concept of Sports Nursery
It is a program where sole focus will be on children from the age category of 4-7. 

Sports Nursery will operate in four verticals which will include specifically designed  program using  a variety of props and games which are unique and safe to engage children and to improve simple motor skills, kicking, running and jumping  hand-eye coordination.

The second vertical will be conducting a comprehensive fitness evaluation for an athlete - designing a systematic, progressive and integrated sports performance understanding of the athlete’s goals, needs, and abilities. 

In the third vertical, main focus will be based for providing 360 degree services to upcoming elite players for achieving sporting excellence by formulating training programs based on current status, identifying strengths and weaknesses, monitor improvements in the biological and physical abilities.

The fourth vertical will be sports training education where train the trainers programme will be introduced for exisiting coaches and former sports persons, who would like to start a career in sports once again.
