Pro Kabaddi League: Tied matches have its own say in Season Five

Pune: The mantra of ‘Something is better than nothing’ has worked fine in Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) Season 5 as three points gained form tied games have helped many teams to get into the ‘Super Playoffs’.

The ongoing season of PKL has seen 28 tied games. The number of tied games played in Zone’ A’ is 9 while in Zone ‘B’ the number rises to 19. “We have gained 15 points from 5 tied games and it has helped us to consolidate our position. We are on the first position in Zone ‘B’, if we had lost all five games then qualifying for the next stage could have been a difficult job for us,” Jagdish Kumble coach of Bengal Warriors told Sakal Times.
“During our home leg, the matches in which we saw both the teams sharing three points were all close ones. In a couple of games, we were trailing while in one match we were leading. The match could have gone in either way on every occasion,” added Kumble.

In most of the crunch situations, teams have preferred to take coach’s advice and it has played an important role in the
game’s proceedings.

“Coach consultation makes the difference. A piece of advice to players in that moment helps them to focus on what to do in next raid,” added Kumble.

Captain Surjeet Singh of Bengal Warriors also felt that tied results help the teams performance and it benefits teams in such a long league.

“There is the benefit of a tied game. When you are trailing in the game and from nowhere you manage to tie the game and earn points for your team gives you a good feeling,” said Surjeet.
Haryana Steelers from Zone A have played four tied games till now and currently sit on No 2 place  with 74 points.

“The three points which we have earned in few matches were from the position where we were behind in the game so it is good to gain some points and move ahead into the points table,” said Rambir Singh Khokhar coach of Haryana Steelers.

The confidence of the team is boosted if you manage to pull out a draw from the losing condition and gaining points from every match always helps.

After every tied encounter, I always advise my players to try hard in the next game which can help us to gain five points.
