Nagpal is the new Chairman of Stewards

PUNE: Geoffrey Nagpal will take over as the Chairman of the Stewards Committee at the Royal Western India Turf Club (RWITC) after the incumbent Gulamhusein A Vahanvaty tendered his resignation due to his new appointment.

Vahanvaty has been appointed Trustee of The Rotary Foundation (International) with effect from July 1, 2018, and already he has become extremely busy with his Rotary work.

He will be one of 15 members from around the world who will constitute the Board of The Rotary Foundation, and is the only Trustee from South Asia.

Although his appointment is effective from July 1, 2018, the invitations to him to attend Rotary events in India and abroad have already commenced and he was finding it increasingly difficult to give adequate and necessary time to his duties as Chairman of the Stewards with the racing in Mumbai at its peak.

Therefore, Vahanvaty tendered his resignation as Chairman of the Stewards with effect from December  25, 2017. However, he will continue as the Member.

Stewards of the Club  then accepted the resignation and it was Vahanvaty who proposed the name of Nagpal, and was seconded by Shyam Ruia. Nagpal’s tenure started from December 25, and will continue until the next Annual General Meeting of the Club.
