Malkit, Divya win gold

Pune: Malkit Singh and Divya Sonar clinched gold medals for Pune in shot put on day one of the Maharashtra State Track and Field Championship at the Balewadi warm up ground here on Friday.
Malkit Singh clinched the gold with the throw of 15.14 metres while Divya managed a 11.64 metre throw to lay her hands on the gold medal.

Medals kept coming for hosts Pune as Anushka Deshpande bagged a silver while Melvin Thomas settled for a bronze medal in the men’s category.

In the women’s long jump event, Algha James took the jump of 5.44 metres to claim the gold for Pune while her team mate Trupti Chitale settled for a bronze. Meanwhile Pragati Sankpal from Kolhapur bagged a silver.

In the men’s event, Tejas Soylean won a silver for Pune while Anupkumar Saroj from Raigad took a jump of 7.34 metres to clinch a gold while the bronze went to Anlkumar Satu of Mumbai Suburbs.

In the high jump event,  Juili Badhe and Chimnayee Vartak won a gold and a bronze for Pune while Sheetal Pinjare from Kolhapur managed a bronze.

Annirudh Gujarne from Satara won the 100 metre gold ahead of Gaurang Amre of Thane and Jai Gawde of Pune who claimed a silver and bronze medal respectively. Annirudh covered the 100 metre distance in 10.3 seconds.

In the women’s event, Dendra Dhudhel who hails from Thane covered the 100 metre distance in 11.07 seconds to capture the gold  medal while Chaitrali Gujrane of Satara and Mamta Hulke of Mumbai Suburbs settled for silver and bronze respectively.
