Pune: Anurag Konkar and Radha Kousadikar ran well under two-hour mark to win the men’s and women’s Under-40 half-marathon titles in Vrukshathon, a run conducted to spread the awareness of planting and nurturing trees to save environment.
Over 2300 runners participated in Vrukshathon conducted over 21-km, 10-km, 5-km and 3-km distances, by Fitnesss First and Support Sakal on Sunday.
The 21-km run began from BMCC ground and headed on to Senapati Bapat Road, Pashan and Bavdhan and back. The 10-km run took the same route, but only til NCL and turned back to finish at the starting point.
Those present for the flag-off were Namrata Patil (DCP, Pimpri-Chinchwad Police), Sitaram Kandi, Rishikesh Bhanushali, Deepak Jagtap, Vaishali Munde-Karad, Shreetej Darode, Rujit Meher, Mukesh Yewale and Chandrakant Nimhan.
A wide spectrum of society took part and pledged to plant trees. All the participants were given tree saplings and finisher’s medal.
Santosh More, Vijay Gaikwad, Mahadev Nirmal, Rohit Salve, Ajinkya Jagtap, Shivanand Gokhale, Padmaraj Doshi and Anupam Khanduja worked to make the event possible.
Organisations such as physiotherapy college DES BJCOP, APCC, PR South, GE India, Balaji Group, Pashan Runners, Bavdhan Brigade, Sahyadri Cyclotrek and Pro Sports supported the event.
