Kamalnayan Bajaj first to enter semis

PUNE: Kamalnayan Bajaj School became the first team to qualify for the semifinals with an easy 3-1 win over Brihan Maharashtra College of Commerce in the senior boy’s category of the Reliance Foundation Youth Sports (RFYS) football tournament at the NCL ground, Pashan here on Wednesday.

In the quarterfinals, a goal in each half by Pratik Birje powered Bajaj School’s win. He opened the scoring in the third minute before Ansel D’Souza (13th) made it 2-0 to sign off the first half.

After resumption, BMCC struck back through Gandhar Salvekar (41st) to cut the lead, but Pratik took the game away from the rivals with his second goal in the 54th minute. 

In the college boys category, D.Y Patil Knowledge City, Lohegaon laboured past Dhole Patil College of Engineering 1-0 to complete the quarterfinal line up from Group F. The all-important goal for DY Patil was netted by Sachin Chandel in the 18th minute.

The teams to make it to the college boys: Pimpri Chinchwad College of Engineering; D.Y Patil Arts Commerce & Science College, Pimpri; Indira College; Spicer College; Vidya Bhavan College of Commerce; Pune Vidyarthi Griha’s College of Engineering; D.Y Patil Knowledge City, Lohegaon and AISSMS College of Engineering.

In the junior boys league encounters, Indira National School edged out opponents Vidya Bhavan High School & Junior College 3-2 in a Group E face off. Rachit Singh (3rd), Devesh Agarwal (47th) and Nirav Motar (59th) scored for the winners, while Siddhart Sonawane (4th) and, Pratham Shetty (25th) scored for Vidya Bhavan.

Junior Boys (League):  Group E: Indira National School bt Vidya Bhavan High School & Junior College 3-2; Group C: Bhartiya Vidya Bhavan w/o St. Vincent’s High School

Senior Boys (Quarterfinal): Kamalnayan Bajaj bt Brihan Maharashtra College of Commerce 3-1.
College Boys (League): Group F -- D.Y Patil Knowledge City, Lohegaon bt Dhole Patil College of Engineering 1-0.
School girls (Qualifiers): Dr. Erin Nosh Nagarwala (Boarding) School bt Ness Wadia College of Commerce 2-1.
