IPL 2020: VIVO backs out from tournament; BCCI to find new title sponsor

With 46 days left for the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has received a shock as the title sponsor VIVO has withdrawn itself from the IPL.

The tech giant VIVO will not long as a title sponsor for cricket’s biggest festival which is considered as cash-rich cricket league in the world. The Chinese giant backs out during all the voices rising among the nation to ban all Chinese products in the wake of the Galwan Valley incident that witnessed 20 Indian soldiers martyred. VIVO earlier had signed a five-year deal in 2018 total of INR 2,000 crore, decided to skip this year’s league owing to increasing negative sentiments towards Chinese brands from India.

As per the reports from India Today, VIVO demanded a 30-40 per cent cut and hence BCCI said with three years of their contract still to go, they could come back as the title sponsors for next year. Also, BCCI could be floating a new tender soon with just 46 days to go for the tournament in UAE.

The pronouncement comes after the governing council of IPL and Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) faced backlash on Monday after they were obvious to hold the Chinese mobile company as title sponsors of the upcoming season.
