IPL 2020 likely to be held in UAE; training camp in Ahmedabad

Rejoice, cricket lovers, the cricket fiesta may soon resume. According to reports, the Indian Premier League is likely to be held in the UAE during October and November, subject to government clearance and the International Cricket Council (ICC) declaring the delay of the T20 World Cup planned to be held in Australia. BCCI president Sourav Ganguly and secretary Jay Shah explained the members at the Apex Council meeting on Friday.

Once the World Cup which is slated to take place during the same period is officially postponed, the cricket board of India will approach the central government to ask if they can host the IPL in India. If the situation in the nation if the wake of novel coronavirus remains grim, the base would be shifted to UAE.

Looking after the current condition in the nation, highly unlikely that the centre will allow the BCCI to host the cricket’s biggest tournament. Thus, it is more or less likely that IPL 2020 will be held at UAE.

International cricket has recommenced after the imposed break due to the coronavirus outbreak in the ongoing Test series between England and West Indies. Pakistan has also reached England for their Test and T20I series in August-September and other teams, including Sri Lanka and South Africa, have started training.

TRAINING CAMP IN AHMEDABAD

BCCI had stated it would conduct a training camp for its contracted players only when it can pledge safety and health. During the meeting on Friday, reports said that Ahmedabad would be the base camp for the players.

Dharamsala and Ahmedabad were the two options discussed where a bio-bubble can be made but Dharamsala was ruled out due to lack of accommodation. Ahmedabad now seems to be the leader for holding the training camp if the BCCI conducts a training camp for the players.
