IPL 2020: Dream 11 to be the title sponsor

The fantasy gaming app Dream 11 has replaced Vivo as IPL 2020 title sponsor. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) declared Dream 11 as the new title sponsor for this year’s season which is scheduled in the UAE. The move comes after the board suspended its title sponsorship deal with Chinese mobile producer Vivo, that had signed a deal in 2018 for 5 years. While the BCCI received Rs 440 crore from Vivo, the fantasy gaming app will pay BCCI 222 crore for this year’s edition. This year’s season will be played in the UAE from September 19 to November 10.

Indian Premier League (IPL) chairman Brijesh Patel confirmed that Rs 222 crore will be paid by Dream 11. The other bidders contesting for the title sponsor included BJYU'S and Unacademy, as per sources. The cricket board had earlier declared that the companies with a turnover of over Rs 300 crores will be permitted to bid for the rights which are available for the period from August 18, 2020, to December 31, 2020.

The decision was taken soon after the board suspended its title sponsorship deal with Chinese mobile manufacturer for IPL 2020 following the Indo-China clash at Ladakh’s Galwan valley - where 20 Indian soldiers were martyred. After the clash, the Indian government also banned 59 Chinese apps in India.
