Infants FC and Mathew FC score opening day wins

Pune: Infant’s Football Club  rode on strikes from Elias Naidu, Vicky Pillay, Louwyn D’Gama and Sadanand Ramaswamy to beat SKF 4-3 in tie-breaker after the two teams were tied goalless at the end of regulation time in the first match of the 18th Guru Teg Bahadur football tournament, which got underway at the COEP ground here on Thursday.

With the match forced into tie-breaker, Infant’s came up with better show, while SKF missed the chance after Kuldeep Bhandari, Harshad Mutkule and Neeraj Mane scored and Tushar Durga and Krishna Durga missed the target.

In the second match of the day, Mathew Football Academy defeated Swaraj FC 3-2 via tie-breaker after the two teams were locked  1-1 at the end of the regulation time.

Mathew Susenathan had given the eventual winner the lifeline when he scored an equaliser in the 58th minute on a pass from Gopi Shanmogan after Vipul Londhe had put Swaraj FC ahead on Jigar Saha’s pass in the 36th minute of the match.

Earlier, the tournament was inaugurated by Sardar Harminder Singh Ghai, Chief Patron of Gurudwara Guru Nanak Darbar, Pune Camp.

Mathew Football Academy 1 (Mathew Susenathan 58th) beat Swaraj FC 1 (Vipul Londhe (36th). Tie-break: 3 (Prathmesh Bhalerao, Somesh Gaikwad, Shivanshu Thakur)-2(Parvez Shaikh, Daniel Redden).
