Hasan Badami of Mumbai exacted revenge from Taha Khan of Thane to claim the inaugural Corner Pocket Cup Open Championship 2019 on their home tables.

Pune: Hasan Badami of Mumbai exacted revenge from Taha Khan of Thane to claim the inaugural Corner Pocket Cup Open Championship 2019 on their home tables.

In a hard-fought final, Hasan, who had lost earlier frames and was down 0-2 composed himself and rallied to win four straight frames and ended up a 4-2 victor. In the clash of Mumbai city players, Taha started well and won first two frames 40-14 and 36-28. 

In the fourth frame Badami compiled a break of 64, the highest break of the tournament, and leveled the score 2-2. Having gained confidence, Badami allow no leeway to Taha in the fifth and sixth frames, winning 37-15, 48-01 and won the title.

Badami pocketed Rs. 17,000 for his effort, while Taha received Rs. 8000. Both the semifinalists-Salil Deshpande and Shivam Arora received Rs. 4000 each.

Badami added an additional Rs 5000 to his kitty for recording the ‘Highest Break’ in the tournament.

Semifinals: Hassan Badami bt Salil Deshpande (PYC) 42-22, 36-40, 42-21, 22-46, 46-24, 39-46, 58-27; Taha Khan (Thane) bt Shivam Arora (Pune) 42-22, 40-38, 2-35, 61(60)-0, 28-9.
