GIIS Chinchwad celebrates AFC Grassroots Day

PUNE: City-based Aspire India in association with Global Indian International School Chinchwad celebrated AFC Grassroots Day by conducting a special grassroots programme for over 65 children at the school campus on Wednesday.

The one-day football festival was conducted by Aspire India Lead Coach, Nikhil Nair, an AIFF D-Licence holder himself, along with four of his fellow coaches who are actively involved in the ongoing grassroot programme at the school for three years.

The day had participation from children - both boys and girls - between the ages of 3 and 16 years drawn from GIIS, Global Montessori Plus (GMP) and Cambridge Assessment International Education (CAIE) who together form a group of schools. The aim of the festival was primarily to generate interest among the kids for the sport and to provide them the right platform to display their skills.

The youngsters were also taken through various fun drills and games, which were divided into three stations of activity, by Aspire India coaches.

The first of its kind activity at the school which lasted for about ninety minutes had the children go through the basics of the ‘beautiful game,’ apart from being explained the significance of the day. The budding footballers enjoyed every minute spent on the field and braved the scorching heat.
