Pune: Pooja Shendage let loose right from the time the whistle was blown as she scored four goals in the first four minutes and as if she opened the floodgates Pune rolled through with 13-0 win over Jalgaon and stormed into the semifinals of the Maharashtra State Junior Women’s Hockey Championship at the Shiv Chhatrapati Balewadi Sports Complex ground here on Saturday.
Playing in the third quarterfinal of the day, home team looked in total control as Pooja handed them breakthroughs much before Jalgaon defence could find their guard. Her seven teammates then joined the goal binge to complete 13-0 annihilation of the hapless Jalgaon side.
Earlier in the first two quarterfinals, Kolhapur rode on goals from Siddhi Jadhav (2nd, 53rd) and Gavri Shinde (14th, 34th, 41st) in beating Ratnagiri 10-0 to become the first team in the semifinals.
Raigad soon followed them with a 7-0 quarterfinal win over Dhule thanks to three goals from Aditi Surve.
The fourth and final quarterfinal was a washout as Nandurbar team failed to arrive, which allowed the Beed District Hockey Association to make it to the last four without even breaking the sweat.
