Dhunjibhoy & team banking on positives

PUNE: In these difficult times of financial crises spread across businesses with taxation regime under the ambit of GST crippling many, the Royal Western India Turf Club (RWITC) is set to vote for a new body to run its affairs, nonetheless the incumbent Chairman, Khushroo Dhunjeebhoy is confident that the work his team has done during his last two terms would reflect in his panel, Team Perform and Deliver, to form the Managing Committee for next one year.

“Despite challenging times in terms of earning profits for the RWITC, we have ensured the cash profit was made by the club besides ironing out other irritants that were hampering our finances,” Dhunjeebhoy told Sakal Times as his team prepared for the September 11 AGM when the result of the voting will be declared.

The E-voting begins on Sunday, September 8 and ends of Tuesday, September 10 at 5 pm. This year’s elections will be keenly watched over by both, the race-goers and punters alike as everyone expects the club to smoothen out its workings right from making race-goer feel welcome at the gates.

TWO KEY ABSENTEES
This will be first RWITC election in many years when the two key members—Shyam Ruia and five-time Chairman Vivek Jain—will not be contesting in the annual elections.

The absence of Ruia, who for 46 straight years was elected to the RWITC committee and once was Chairman too, is also seen as crucial for the young blood who intends to bring in positive change in the working of the club. Voting list however, will have Vivek Jain’s name as his withdrawal came a day later than the deadline set.

“I look forward to these elections though I am technically not in contention and would support those who aim to take RWITC to stability in these difficult times,” Jain said.

- For Board of Appeal: Darashaw K Mehta
