Cricket comes first, honeymoon later,  say Indian fans

PUNE:  An interesting study by an online holiday booking website has revealed that 42 per cent of Indian cricket fans said that they were happy to cancel their honeymoon if it clashes with their team playing a big game. The study by Booking.com also stated that 37 per cent of Indian sports fans have happily admitted that they would be willing to pay more for sports travel than their family vacation.

The survey was conducted to determine how optimistic the Indian cricket fans are, and how the sport influences the fans’ travel behaviour.
 
Travel planning for the big match
As per the findings released by the company, a combination of Fear of Missing Out (FOMO) and dedication to travelling and showing their support in the stadium results in unwavering commitment. As opposed to the Indian fans, globally, an average of 19 per cent of the sports fans have revealed that they would rather cancel their honeymoon than missing an important match. 

Around 41 per cent of Indian sports fans said that they would rather lose their job than not be able to attend a historic sporting final/event, the global average for this was 18 per cent.

Travelling to see their team live in action was a clear priority for many Indian sports fans, as 82 per cent of Indian sports fans have completed between one to five such trips in the last year alone. Six out of 10 of these fans declared that they plan to travel to watch their team or player in the future.

Despite affordability being important for the Indian sports fans, 37 per cent happily admitted that they would be willing to pay more for sports travel than their family vacation. Top Indian sports fans travel for Cricket (86 per cent), Football/soccer (51 per cent), Tennis (31 per cent), Hockey (23 per cent) and Motorsports (18 per cent).
