Arnaav and Ronak emerge champions

The biggest upset of the day was logged in the boys Under-19 section wherein Arnaav upstaged No. 2 Advait Adik. Arnaav began his day on the back foot losing the first game, however he did well to recover and complete an 8-11, 11-5, 11-8, 11-4 victory.

PUNE: City based unseeded Arnaav Sareen and No.8  Ronak Singh held centre stage on a day when Pune players bagged four titles and finished runners up in three on the concluding day of the Maharashtra Squash Rackets Association (MSRA) 1st Maharashtra Closed Squash Championship 2019 at the iSquash Academy courts, Mundhwa here on Sunday.

The biggest upset of the day was logged in the boys Under-19 section wherein Arnaav upstaged No. 2 Advait Adik. Arnaav began his day on the back foot losing the first game, however he did well to recover and complete an 8-11, 11-5, 11-8, 11-4 victory.

Later, in the boys Under-17 final Ronak who took on No.1 Mohit Bhatt did well to win a long stretched to 80-points final. Ronak rallied from an opening game loss to complete a come-from-behind 12-10, 12-14, 11-9, 11-1 win.

The girls Under-11 final was an all Pune affair with top-seed Aelina Shah winning a marathon second game before putting out No.2 Vyomika Khandelwal 11-4, 18-16, 11-2.

Similarly, the women’s title, which was also an all-Pune final showdown, top ranked Sanika Choudhari tamed second seeded Nikita Agarwal in straight games 11-3, 11-1, 11-1. In the men’s section No.7 seed Simranjit Singh ended the dream run of Khumansingh Bhati, fell to top-seeded Abhinav Sinha 11-4, 11-3, 11-2.
