Adkar returns home with two National Series titles

Pune: An eighth grade student from Abhinava English Medium School, Erandwane, Vaishnavi Adkar, came out with an impressive performance to win the singles and doubles titles in the Under-14 National Series Tennis Tournament at Sania Mirza Tennis Academy in Hyderabad.

Vaishnavi beat city mate Radhika Mahajan 6-1, 6-2 to lift the singles trophy while in the doubles contest, Vaishnavi along with her partner Pari Singh overcame the challenge of Maithali Mothe and Suryavanshi Tanwar to secure a 6-3, 6-2 victory.

“I am satisfied with my performance and now I am looking forward to compete in the Under-16 category and win more matches,” Vaishnavi told Sakal Times.

Vaishnavi, who trains at Bounce Tennis Academy under coach Kedar Shah, was flawless in the singles semi-final where she scored an easy 6-1, 6-1 victory over Sai Bhoyar. “Since the last 8-9 months, Vaishnavi is really working hard over her fitness. She is trained by fitness trainer Gaurav Nijhon. Good level of fitness has helped Vaishnavi to improve her footwork on the court,” Kedar Shah told Sakal Times.

In the doubles semi-final, Vaishnavi and Pari outplayed Chandni Srinivasan and Radhika Mahajan 6-1, 6-1.
“She (Vaishnavi) started playing tennis at the age of seven. She developed interest right from day one, so now as a parent, we are supporting her whole heartedly. Special thanks to Kedar Shah, her coach at Bounce Tennis Academy. She is improving a lot at the academy,” Said Nihar Adkar, father of Vaishnavi.

This was Vaishnavi’s second National Series title on the trot.
