Youth held for repeatedly raping neighbour's six-year-old girl in Katraj

Pune: A 25-year-old youth was booked by Bharati Vidyapeeth Police for allegedly raping a six-year-old girl. The police arrested him on Friday. 

The accused was identified as Devilal alias Prashant Sagare, a resident of Sainagar locality of Katraj. He runs a vegetable shop in Katraj market. The police said he sexually assaulted the girl multiple times during the period from August to December 22. 

According to the Bharati Vidyapeeth police, the accused and victim are neighbours and were known to each other. From last twenty days, the accused was sexually abusing the girl on regular basis. 

The police said Sagare used to take the minor girl with him on the pretext of playing and then raped her on multiple occasions. The incident came to light when the girl informed her parents about her ordeal who then reported the matter to the police. 

Sumita Chorge, Police Sub Inspector, Bharati Vidyapeeth Police station said, "The accused used to rape the girl and then used to threaten her with consequences, he even told her that he would kill her mother if she revealed the incident to anybody." 

The accused has been booked under section 376 (rape) of IPC and POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences).
