Youth held for killing sister in Chakan area

Pune: In a case of honour killing, a 19-year-old youth was arrested by officials of the local crime branch (LCB) of the Pune rural police for allegedly murdering his sister on June 25, in Temgirevasti area of Chakan.

The arrest comes after a month of police investigation. According to LCB officers, the body of a 17-year-old girl was found in a partially naked condition in Chakan. The girl had been murdered while on her way to answer nature’s call.

The incident ocurred at 11 am. After the girl did not return home, her father and brother launched a search and found the girl murdered in an open ground. They reported the matter to the Chakan police station.

The police said they did not suspect the involvement of the brother in the murder case in the beginning. Additional Superintendent of Police Tejaswi Satpute ordered all the police officials to investigate the case in detail.

A team  including Police Inspector Dayanand Gawde and Assistant Police Inspector Ankush Mane and other police officials started questioning the residents of the area. They came to know that the family had shifted recently to Chakan.

After further investigation, the police nailed the victim’s brother as a murder suspect. During interrogation, he admitted having bludgeoning his sister with an axe.

He said his sister had affairs with four to five youths in the village which brought disgrace to his family and so he planned the murder.

On the day of the murder the victim was on her way to answer nature’s call when the accused hit her on her head with an axe and left the crime spot.

The police arrested the accused, who has been handed over to Chakan police for further investigation.
