Pune: Terre Policy Centre (TPC), Pune recently celebrated World Ozone Day by organising an interaction between corporators from the city.
Corporator Madhuri Sahasrabuddhe, who was also one of the coordinators of the programme, spoke about envioronment-friendly initiatives like ‘refuse plastic’, ‘restrict thermocol’, ‘power generation through garbage’, ‘seed balls’, etc. undertaken in her ward, as well as in Pune district as a whole.
As 2017 is the 30th anniversary of the Montreal Contract, former director of United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) Rajendra Shende spoke about the importance of the ‘Ozone layer’, factors anehind its depletion and measures that need to be taken in order to save it. Shende further said that if envioronmental initiatives are followed to the core, we could make our environment like it was in 1970.
During the programme, corporator Manjushree Khardekar also spoke about eco-friendly initiatives that have been undertaken in her ward.
Dr Apte of Terre Policy Centre told the audience about a novel initiative called ‘Clean Climate Development (CCD)’, which would ensure sustainable development through eco-friendly measures. The event concluded with the screening of a short film, ‘OZ-Ozone’.
