Work for the Shivajinagar to Swargate metro to start in Nov

Pune: Officials of the MahaMetro on Thursday said the excavation work of underground metro project from Shivajinagar to Swargate is expected to start in the month of November. 

Speaking about the underground work, MahaMetro’s Executive Director Atul Gadgil said two new tunnel-boring machines (TBM) from Terratec company of Hong Kong are expected to reach Pune by November. “The machines will be ready by September and shipping of the same will take about two months’ time. The underground project of metro has been awarded to Tata and Gulermak and they have suggested the TBM,” added Gadgil.

He said the underground package is divided into two parts, one from Shivajinagar to Budhwar Peth which is of Rs 1,126 crore and the other from Swargate to Budhwar Peth which costs Rs 1,156 crore. The project of making shafts at Agriculture College and Swargate along with some part of Swargate multimodal hub has been awarded to construction company J Kumar Infraprojects for Rs 228 crore. 

Speaking about rehabilitation and relief (RNR) policies for project-affected people, Gadgil said in all 296 people are affected including 225 in Kasba Peth and 71 in Mandai. “We will be building 150 units of 1 BHK flats ranging from  430 square feet to 507 square feet. Similarly 144 units of 1HK ranging from 250 to 325 square feet and 88 units of 1 RK of 250 square feet. In all 61 commercial establishments are impacted,” added Gadgil.

MahaMetro has selected five places to relocate project-affected people which includes Dadoji Konddev Vidyalaya, Kadambari Society, PDCC Bank and Jhansi Rani School. “We are in the process of convincing the project-affected people. About 20 to 25 per cent of the people are positive about the RNR policy,” 
added Gadgil.
