There are several names of officers doing the rounds as the new SP of Rural Police in the district

Pune: After Sandeep Patil was transferred on promotion from the post of Superintendent of Police (Pune Rural), there are several names of officers doing the rounds as the new SP of Rural Police in the district. Officers like Rajendra Mane, Abhinav Deshmukh or Manoj Patil are likely to be appointed for this coveted post but no decision has been taken so far.

After Mumbai, Pune is the major city and district in the state in terms of politics, social, cultural and educational aspects. Many officials dream of becoming the District Collector and Superintendent of Police of this district.

Pune is also known as a sensitive district. Many of the Ashtavinayak temples, national highways, industrial estates are included in the district. This is a fast-developing district with strong political will. Leaders of all political parties want the district superintendent of police to be of their choice.

As Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar is the Guardian Minister of Pune district, it is obvious that the officer of his choice will be posted as the Superintendent of Police. At present, there is curiosity as to who Pawar puts his weight in.

Additional Superintendent of Police Milind Mohite of Baramati has been given the temporary charge of Superintendent of Police. Five days have passed and the name for the coveted post has not been finalised yet. The names of Rajendra Mane along with Abhinav Deshmukh and Manoj Patil are currently being discussed. There are also speculations that some other officer’s name may crop up at the last moment. All eyes are set on Mumbai as this decision will be taken there.

The appointment of a new Police Superintendent should be made as early as possible in the wake of Covid-19 outbreak. The district superintendent has to face many challenges, including maintaining the will of the political leadership, curbing crime and managing the traffic related issues.
