Website glitch stalls diploma admissions

Pune: The admission portal for the post-Secondary School Certificate (SSC) diploma course conducted by the Directorate of Technical Education (DTE) went non-functional on Monday afternoon for almost two hours. Students were unable to fill the forms and with the last date for applications being Tuesday, (June 18), students panicked.

The admission is for the first year of the three-year full-time diploma engineering and technology programmes in government, government-aided, university-managed and unaided private educational institutes for the academic year 2019-20. There are a total of 1.2 lakh seats for this diploma course in the State.

DTE officials told Sakal Times that the server was down for an hour due to maintenance and upgradation of the website, which was underway in the afternoon. However, the server started to function normally only by evening. “The problem started around 2 pm on Monday. After an hour the website was functioning normally,” claimed DTE Pune Region Joint Director Dilip Nandanwar.

The officials also said there were a few complaints from educational institutes about server being down and affecting the online registration process.

“A letter has been sent to the higher authority regarding extension of last date for  applications. That is yet to be decided,” said an official.

As the SSC students have started receiving their mark sheet and school leaving certificate, the number of students applying for post SSC diploma courses has increased.

This has caused heavier traffic on the website, making it run slow. “Till now there is no confirmation about the extension of dates. The server was down for a couple of hours only. And students have an entire day on Tuesday to fill up the forms. Therefore, there is sufficient time,” said Nandanwar.
