Waterlogging in city due to metro works

Pune: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has been receiving several complaints of waterlogging in the city areas where Pune Metro work is going on. Now, the corporation is trying to solve the waterlogging problems with the help of the road maintenance team.

On Thursday, there was heavy rainfall in many parts of the city. On Karve Road area where Pune Metro has started work of Vanaz-Ramwadi route, people faced waterlogging. Pune Metro has barricaded the middle of the road for construction of the metro railway pillars. Therefore, there is a narrow carriageway between the barricades and footpath where there is waterlogging. The same situation occurred on the RTO office to Bund Garden Road. Metro is constructing pillars on Ahmednagar Road, Paud Road, RTO to Pune Railway station, Jehangir Hospital to Bund Garden Road.

Besides, there was a report of waterlogging in Baner area, Senapati Bapat road near JW Marriott hotel, Sai Chowk at Balewadi road, Shivajinagar near Bank of Maharashtra.
Abhijeet Dombe, Executive Engineer of Road Department, PMC, said, “There was waterlogging in Karve Road area. We received complaints and solved it. In monsoon season, it happens on a regular basis.”

“We are taking help of road maintenance vans to clear waterlogging problem in many parts of the city. We have made an arrangement of two vans for each zone. There are four zones of the corporation in the city. With the help of these, we are clearing the water,” said Dinkar Gojare, Executive Engineer of Road Department.

PMC official said that while submitting the building plan, the developers or architects only show a normal wall with no specific design. They only mark the outer line of the wall in the plan.

However, according to guidelines issued in 2013, developers or architects need to specify the width, height and RCC wall design as per area of construction, and then only, the corporation will approve the plan.
