Water for twin towns on alternate days

Water for twin towns on alternate days

PIMPRI: All parts of Pimpri Chinchwad will receive alternate day water supply with effect from Monday, November 25. Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Commissioner Shravan Hardikar said that alternate water supply has been resorted to as an immediate measure to ensure equitable water supply in the city.

Speaking at a press conference, Hardikar clarified that there was no water shortage as the Pavana dam, the source of water for the city, has adequate water storage. The municipal administration has already introduced once a week water cut in the city to ensure adequate water to all city areas. Nonetheless, there have been repeated allegations of irregular and inadequate water supply.

The civic administration’s apathy was blamed in this regard. There have also been allegations of artificial water shortage for favouring the tanker lobby. A meeting of all municipal office-bearers, leaders of various political parties, corporators of areas facing water shortage was convened at the municipal commissioner’s office to discuss the situation. Hardikar announced the alternate day water supply measure after the meeting.

Hardikar said that the new water cut was a temporary remedy. The situation will be reviewed two months later and an appropriate decision will be taken, he said.
