Water cut likely from next week
Irrigation Div seeks Rs 195 crore water charges from Pune Municipal Corporation
PUNE: The Khadakwasla Irrigation Division has sent a letter to the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) instructing it to do proper water management.
The division has also asked the PMC to clear dues of Rs 195 crore as water charges. Meanwhile, officials from the PMC Water Supply Department have started planning the schedule for the proposed water cut, which will be implemented from next week.
On September 4, State Water Resource Department announced its decision to reduce water supply to the city by 200 million litres per day (MLD). Earlier, the PMC was getting 1,350 MLD water, but the Khadakwasla Irrigation Division sent a letter to the PMC advising proper planning for 1,150 MLD water. The division said the PMC should pay Rs 195 crore water charges as dues for lifting water from Khadakwasla dam.
VG Kulkarni, Chief Superintending Engineer of ‘PMC Water Supply Department said, “We conducted a meeting of all engineers and instructed them to submit their report to the main office about the water cut. We will finalise the timetable in two days and publish it in papers. We will implement the water cut from next week. It will be one-time during the day.”
