Pune: In a bizarre incident that took place between September to December 2019, Lokash Kumar Maheshkumar Demole (40), a resident of Wakad lodged a complaint at Wakad Police Station on Monday against unidentified suspects using his credit card.

According to the police, the suspect allegedly prepared a fake PAN card in the name of the complainant and accordingly obtained a bank credit card using the fake PAN card. The unidentified suspect cheated the complainant by making a purchase of Rs 5 lakh on various online products online as well as in different malls.

The police have filed a case against the unidentified suspects under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code as well as under The Information Technology Act.

"The complainant had no information about this. But due to a lot of dues pending in complainant names, he got a call from the bank. He was asked by the concerned credit card bank to pay the dues on a credit card," said Ravindra Mudal, Wakad police sub-inspector who is investigating the case.

"The complainant kept receiving calls from the concerned department of repaying the money borrowed from the bank. So he went to the main branch of the bank and asked the credit card department about it. At that time, the application for a credit card, PAN card and other documents were shown to him," he added.

He further stated that "the complainant noticed that it was not the signature of his. He also said that the photo was obtained using another card. The suspect had fraudulently obtained a credit card by making a fake PAN card in his name. Based on which he realized that he has been conned and cheated. He approached us and we accordingly investigated and lodged the complaint."
