Pune: District Collector Naval Kishore Ram spoke to Sakal Times about the preparations in Pune district on the day of the Lok Sabha poll results, May 23.

What is the number of staffers deployed on the day of counting?
The counting will start from 8 am and around 5,000 personnel will deployed in Pune district on the day of counting. They will be deployed at two strong rooms ie Food Corporation of India Godown, Koregaon Park for Pune and Baramati constituencies, while the one at Balewadi Sports Complex for Maval and Shirur constituencies. This includes staff from opening of strong room to carrying the EVM cases and counting of votes.

What is the arrangement for the counting at the counting station?
In Pune, there are 96 tables and including all four PCs, there are as many as 400 tables. There are three counting staff on each of the table. One counting agent from each candidate is allowed to observe from the outside. The entire counting will happen under the supervision of Returning Officer (RO) .
There are four ROs for each of the constituencies.

As VVPAT is also introduced this time, what will be the procedure for the counting?
Once the EVM and postal ballot counting will be over, we will start tallying VVPATs. There are six Assembly constituencies in each Lok Sabha constituencies and five VVPATs from each Assembly constituency will be randomly selected by the respective ROs.

The results might get delayed as compared to the last time because of VVPAT tallying,  but that should not be an issue as accuracy and transparency is of utmost important.

First round
There are minimum 14 tables for each Assembly constituency, however it depends on the size of constituency. In Pune district only Shirur has 14 tables per Assembly constituency and apart from it all others have more number of tables.

First round of results can be declared after completion of counting of first round of EVMs on each of  the tables in each Assembly constituency. However, the final results will be declared after the counting of VVPAT.
