Visitors at palkhis prove easy targets for chain snatchers

Pune: Officials of the city police on Tuesday appreciated Police Mitra (friends of police) Ubed Aslam for nabbing a chain snatcher. 
In a tweet, Commissioner of Police Rashmi Shukla appreciated the alertness shown by Ubed, which helped recover six stolen gold chains.

Several incidents of chain snatching took place during palkhi movement in the city.

On Tuesday, the Hadapsar police arrested two chain snatchers, Vinod Gite (26) and Durga Yedkar (22). According to the Hadapsar police, at around 11.30 am, Durga snatched the gold chain of one Malti Ghodke at Hadapsar Gadital, following which she was arrested by the Hadapsar police. 

In another case, Vishwas Jakate was robbed of his gold chain while he was praying near the Sant Tukaram Palkhi, while it was passing through Hadapsar. The police have arrested Gite in the case.

Tushar Jaid also lost his gold chain worth Rs 49,900 near Sagar Plaza in Bhosari on Sunday morning while he was taking darshan of the Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj Palkhi. Prashant Shirshat also lost his gold chain worth Rs 1.4 lakh while he was taking darshan of Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj Palkhi near Tukaram Paduka Chowk in Deccan on Sunday evening.
