Visiting docs under scanner for irregularities at SVPCGH

Pune: The honorary specialist doctors visiting Pune Cantonment Board (PCB) run Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Cantonment General Hospital (SVPCGH) will now be under scanner.

According to the reports available with PCB administration, it has been observed that some visiting honorary specialists doctors are not available during their visiting time at the hospital or have signed the muster and left without seeing any patients, said Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of PCB, DN Yadav.

“Irregularities practiced by some visiting honorary specialists doctors has been noticed recently. Either they are not available at the outpatient department (OPD) during their given visiting hours or just for the sake have checked one or two patient and left. Whereas, there are many honorary doctors who are regular and punctual to provide their services to a significant number of patients,” said Yadav.

PCB has been paying each visiting honorary specialist doctors an amount of Rs 1,000 per visit. However, disappointed by the situation, the CEO has recommended that these doctors must be paid according to the patients checked instead of per visit.

“Those who are irregular in attending the OPDs on their fixed days and timings will make them self-available and also attend sufficient numbers of patients. This will also benefit those who are in need and improve our services to the public,” said Yadav.

President of PCB Brig Rajiv Sethi has suggested that biometric attendance should be enforced on visiting doctors as well, to note their quantity of time and presence in the hospital.
