Vikhe Patil School to host Green Championship Programme

PUNE: Vikhe Patil School becomes the only school from the city among 10 cities in the country that will be hosting the ‘Green Championship Programme for Schools’, an inter-school competition by Schneider Electric India Foundation (SEIF) under ‘Conserve My Planet’ programme. The programme invites students to design and develop projects on efficient energy management. This is the 12th edition of ‘Green Championship’.

‘Conserve My Planet’ is an educational programme conceptualised to address the crucial energy crisis that the world is facing and to educate school children about the importance of conserving energy along with protecting the environment.

In this edition, ‘Conserve My Planet’ programme would be conducted in specific schools of India spread across 10 cities namely Pune, Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Delhi, Chandigarh, Goa and Kolkata. All participating schools are meticulously selected for the programme as a community called the ‘Green Republic’, and are termed as ‘Green Ambassadors’.

Some of the schools hosting the Green Championship this year include Vikhe Patil School, Pune; Ambience Public School, Delhi; Malviya Convent School, Jaipur; The Pupil Saveetha Eco School, Chennai; Harvest International School, Bengaluru; St Wilfred College, Mumbai; St Peter’s Residential School, Hyderabad and Calcutta Public School, Kolkata. In the past decade, SEIF has successfully trained more than 50,000 Green Ambassadors in over 500 schools across India.

Speaking about the initiative, Venkat Garimella, VP, Corporate Strategy and CSR, Schneider Electric India, said, “Conserve my energy programme is aimed at inculcating the thought of energy conservation right at the grassroots level. The programme enables students to design and develop working models on efficient energy management. In the process, they get acquainted with the energy conservation techniques and also share their learnings with their families, thus helping to convey the message amongst a large audience.”

SEIF also trains the Green Ambassadors to undertake energy audits, evaluate energy consumption at homes and conduct green certification of schools while building energy-conscious communities around them. This helps these schools and students to receive industry exposure and contribute to hands-on projects while participating in numerous contests and team activities such as presentations, group discussions and preparation of energy audit reports of their campuses via interactive classroom sessions and outdoor activities.
