Vidhan Sabha 2019: Traffic, water woes plague residents

PUNE: Residents from the Hadapsar Assembly Constituency are unhappy due to the increasing traffic congestions and dependency on water tankers. The regular traffic snarls at Hadapsar Main Chowk, Solapur Road, Mantri Market, Sasane Nagar and Bhim Nagar are irking them.

Citizens from NIBM Road, Kondhwa, Parge Nagar and Mohammed Wadi have been upset over irregular water supply and lack of proper internal roads. Ghorpadi, Jadhav Nagar, Keshav Nagar, Ghule Vasti, Chandan Nagar, Amar Srushti, Laxmi Colony, Ramtekadi, Sasane Nagar, Mohammed Wadi, NIBM Road, Katraj, Ambedkar Nagar, Tilekar Nagar, Santosh Nagar areas fall within Hadapsar Constituency.

Sitting BJP MLA Yogesh Tilekar has launched various projects in the constituency such as Manjari railway overbridge, Yewalewadi naturotheraphy hospital and Katraj-Kondhwa road widening, while some are in the pipeline.

Some of the issues facing citizens here are the development of internal roads, garbage management and increasing encroachments.

Arun Dasan, marketing professional and a resident of Mantri Market apartment, said, “If you are commuting from Hadapsar to Fatima Nagar, there are constant traffic jams. It takes hours to reach your destination. Increasing encroachment in Hadapsar Gaon and Bhaji Mandai causes heavy traffic jams near Mantri Market. It becomes difficult for us to enter our society premises.”

“There are flyovers but they are hardly of any use, as they have not been planned properly and do not solve the traffic issues,” added Dasan.

“The issues of Hadapsar area remains unchanged even after 10 years, as there has been hardly any development. Traffic jams at Bhim Nagar road, Hadapsar Bhaji Mandai and near Sasane Nagar are a constant phenomenon. We claim Pune being a smart city but what kind of smart city it is where basic infrastructure is missing,” asked a resident from Sasane Nagar.

The residents of areas such as NIBM Road, Mohammedwadi and Kondhwa are constantly facing water issues. Yogendra Yadav, a resident of Grafikon Paradise, NIBM Road, said, “Most of the societies on NIBM Road, especially from Sunshree society to Cloudnine, have no water supply. We have been demanding a pipeline for years, but nothing has happened. Last year, my society spent Rs 9 lakh on water tankers and other societies here also spend a huge sum on tankers.” Joel Varghese, a businessman and resident of Shobha Ivory, Pargenagar, Kondhwa, said, “We are completely dependent on water tankers. Every day, at least 6 to 7 tankers come in our society, which cost us around Rs 3 lakh every month. The main access road to Parge Nagar is also encroached causing traffic jams.”

“However, the road widening of Katraj-Kondhwa will bring some relief but it won’t give any better result unless the internal roads are not developed, ” added Varghese.
