Varsities to utilise funds by December

PUNE: The Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA) authority has directed universities to utilise the allocated funds by December in a meeting held with 21 vice-chancellors of the State non-agriculture universities on Saturday.

RUSA has granted funds to several universities for the development of academy and infrastructure. But many universities haven’t received the funds from RUSA.

Addressing the meeting, Director of RUSA Project Pankaj Kumar said, “The funds given by RUSA should be completely used by December and universities should make efforts in implementing all the schemes of central as well as state government.”

The higher-ups of these universities discussed ways to raise the quality of education at the higher educational institutes and how the government’s help can be sought in this matter.

Vice-Chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC) Bhushan Patwardhan, State Higher and Technical Education Secretary Sourabh Vijay, Director of Higher Education Dhanraj Mane, SPPU VC Nitin Karmalkar and registrar Prafulla Pawar were present during the meeting. The meeting focused on the need to bring in an integrated computer system, use of technology in education, evaluation of educational institutes and its administration works should be done. Guidelines provided by All Indian Council of Technical Education (AICTE) for evaluation should be implemented.

VCs also discussed the recruitment procedures, which have got delayed at 15 state universities and its consequences on the academic.
