Two jail officials assaulted by prisoners in Yerwada Jail

Pune: Four prisoners lodged in Yerwada Central Jail assaulted two jail officials inside the jail premises on Wednesday. A case has been registered against the accused at Yerwada police station.

The accused, identified as Tushar Hambire, Kiran Bhalerao, Akshay Ingulkar and Nivruti Pawar, attacked jail officials in barrack no 2 on Wednesday at 6 pm. According to the Yerawada police, the incident occurred during the routine search and counting in the barrack. The assault started over an argument between prisoner Hambire and Constable Ramesh Pisale.

The argument started when Pisale told Hambire to be careful while flinging his bedsheet, as it was dusty. Hambire started arguing with the constable and then roughed him up with the help of the other three prisoners. They also roughed up jail official Nagnath Jagtap, who tried to stop them. UT Pawar, Jail Superintendent, Yerwada Prison, said, “We have filed a case against the four accused and we will take necessary action against them.”
