Two flights to Delhi cancelled, one diverted

PUNE: Due to thick smog in New Delhi, air service has been affected. Between Pune and Delhi, two flights have been cancelled and another was diverted to Jaipur.

The air quality of all areas around NCR is ranging from very poor to severe levels.

Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) issued a press statement on Sunday, saying, “Due to the low visibility at Delhi Airport, 37 flights were diverted between 9 am and 1 pm  today.”

Two flights between Pune and Delhi, operated by Air India and Indigo, were cancelled on Sunday, while a SpiceJet flight from Pune to Delhi was diverted to Jaipur.

However, Pune Airport Director Ajay Kumar said, “Two incoming flights by Air Asia and Vistara were delayed by about 2 hours. A Delhi-Pune Indigo flight was cancelled.”

Passengers going to Delhi, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad and Kolkata complained that their flights were delayed by two to four hours on account of incoming aircraft reaching the airport late, which delayed outgoing flights.

Sachin Sharma, a city-based filmmaker, who had booked a ticket on Vistara’s Pune-Delhi flight and was to further travel to Budapest from Delhi, complained that he had to wait for over four hours on account of the delay.

“It was supposed to take off at 1.10 pm from Pune. However, the airline staff told us that as the incoming Delhi-Pune flight was delayed, our departure would be delayed. The flight finally departed for Delhi at about 5 pm. Thankfully, I reached on time to Delhi airport to continue my onward journey,” he said.

Passengers going to Delhi, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad and Kolkata complained that their flights were delayed.
