Traffic cops not giving NoC for devp works, allege corporators

PUNE: Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) corporators have alleged that the Pune traffic police department is not providing a ‘No Objection Certificate (NoC)’ for the development works related to road, drainage and water departments.

Mayor Murlidhar Mohol has instructed PMC Chief Saurabh Rao to meet the Police Commissioner to solve these issues as soon as possible to allow development work to be carried on.

At the recent PMC Standing Committee meeting, members raised this issue of traffic police’s lack of co-operation. This issue was again raised in Monday’s General Body meeting.

Corporator Arvind Shinde from Congress said, “The PMC has started development works related to road, drainage, water departments but traffic police are stopping work, saying that NoC from traffic police department is needed. They are checking work order.”

Former deputy mayor Siddharth Dhende said, “The PMC decided to repair the old river bridge. But, traffic police is not providing permission.”

Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Dilip Barate said, “The police don’t have the right to stop development work.”  Maharashtra Navnirman Sena’s (MNS) Vasant More complained about traffic police’s uncooperative attitude.

While instructing the PMC Municipal Commissioner Rao, Mohol said, “Not only corporators, civic officials and contractors too are complaining about the police’s NoC issue. The PMC commissioner should conduct a meeting with the police commissioner and solve this issue as early as possible.”

THE ISSUE
- According to PMC officials, the corporation needs to take permission from the police department while digging roads to lay down water pipelines, drainage line or for road development related works. This is done so that traffic policemen can manage traffic of those areas.
- “It was not a problems last year. We don’t know why the issue has become so serious and traffic police is either delaying (giving) permission or objecting to the work. It has become a major issue in the city right now,” a civic official said on condition of anonymity.
