Three held for making forged voter ID cards

Pune: Officials of the Anti-Organised Crime Cell (AOCC) of the city police Crime Branch nabbed three persons allegedly involved in helping people procure PAN cards using forged voters identity cards. The three accused have been identified as Ravindra Jagtap (36), Sunil Baravkar (31) and Ganesh Shilimkar (34).

Police Inspector Ram Rajmane of AOCC said that policeman Ramesh Chaudhar had received a tip-off that Sunil, who earlier worked as a data entry operator for the election department, is helping people get PAN cards through forged voter ID cards. Accordingly, police received a tip-off that the three accused will be coming in Dhankawadi area and a trap was laid to nab the accused.

Police said that Ganesh would give photos and names of various persons to Sunil to make the forged voter ID cards. As Sunil had earlier worked for the election department, he would make the forged voter cards and help people get PAN cards on the basis of these forged voter ID cards.

“We have seized 10 fake voter ID cards, PAN cards and three mobile phones from the accused,” added Rajmane. A stamp of a voters’ enrollment officer was also found with the accused. The investigation team also included Police Sub Inspector Uttam Budgude and policemen Rajendrasing Chauhan, Ravindra kadam, Sunil Chikale, Ganesh Salunke and others.

Who hired the accused?
Police officials said that they are investigating for whom the accused made these fake Voter ID cards. Ten such cards were recovered from the accused and the police are trying to ascertain the exact number of people who hired the accused’s services.
