Pune: Three men have been arrested by Khadak police station for allegedly looting people under the false pretext that their vehicle had hit them. Cops claimed to have solved six such cases with the arrest and recovered robbed ornaments and cash worth Rs 84,000 from their possession.
The arrested persons have been identified as Nikhil alias Dadya Shashikant Kamble (19), Aslam Ismail Shaikh (20) and Suraj Sanjay Khatri (19), all residents of Vetalbaba Vasahat in Hadapsar.
In one of the incidents on February 12, Anil Gajanan Jagtap (40) of Undri was riding his bike home. At around 7.45 pm, the accused persons suddenly crossed him on their bike and abused him near Meera hospital on Shankarsheth Road. Jagtap stopped his bike and the two men again came to him and started arguing that because of him, they met with an accident. They snatched his gold chain worth Rs 36,000. Later, Jagtap lodged an FIR with the police.
While investigating the case, policemen Vinod Jadhav and Ravi Lokhande received information about the accused, who were at Ghorpade Peth garden on February 20. Accordingly, a team caught Shaikh and Kamble. Later, their accomplice Khatri was also arrested.
Senior Police Inspector Rajendra Mokashi, in-charge of Khadak police station, said, “Kamble has three cases of theft and assault registered against him in the past with Hadapsar and Mundhwa police stations, while Shaikh has two theft cases. Investigations are on to find out if they have looted more people.”
The investigation team included PSI Sanjay Gaikwad, Bharat Chapaitkar, Anant Vyawhare and policemen Vishwanath Kamble, Aniket Babar and Sandip Kamble.
