Pune: Citizens have expressed concern over the burglary that took place in Pune based popular temple situated in the heart of the city on Sunday.
Amid the lockdown crime cases are increasing. Tough, temples are closed due to the lockdown norms, the number of burglary in temples is also increasing. The police are probing the case based on the CCTV footage.
The incident took place at Pasodya Vithoba temple in Budhwar Peth area in the wee hours of Sunday where the unknown person robbed the donation box and fled away.
A couple of days back similar incident took place at Vijay Maruti Mandir during the lockdown. Also, the donation box of Bhau Rangari Ganapati temple was stolen by thieves some five months back. Due to the increase in such incidents, there is an atmosphere of fear among the citizens and shopkeepers in the area. The question is raised: Are the temples in Peth area safe because of this type of incident coming to light? Citizens have appealed to the police to take immediate action against the thieves.
Lockdown rules have been tightened in the city's suburbs and have been included in the containment zone too. However, thieves are taking advantage of this situation.
Giving more information about this, Vinod Agarwal, a businessman from Budhwar Peth talking to Sakal Times, said, “In Peth areas, the locality has a lot of hustle and bustle but amid the lockdown, there is no security arrangement in the area as many security guards have gone home.”
“The administration should tell us promptly how many more days it will be closed as part of the containment. There are about 250 to 300 shops in the area. They have been closed for the last two to three months. The number of electronic goods and mobile shops is high, so there is a 'watch' for thieves,” he questioned.
